Public Meeting – A66 Northern Trans-Pennine Project Consultation

Highways England are undertaking a non-statutory public consultation which opened on 16th May 2019 and is due to end on 11th July 2019.  If you haven’t already shared your views with Highways England either,

Then please join us at an open meeting at the Village Hall on Tuesday 2nd July 2019 between 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm


We will have large maps showing the proposed routes, brochures to review and forms that can be filled out on the night.   We will also document any questions that you have and forward these to Highways England.

563 Bus Update – June 2019

Stagecoach have just given us the good news that they will be operating the 563 Appleby – Penrith service until at least September 2021, provided that passenger numbers continue to do well. Thank you to everyone who already uses the 563; new users are most welcome to join them. Details of the 563 bus service are available on www.cumbria.gov.uk/buses/eden

Notice of Public Rights and Publication of Annual Governance and Accountability Return 2018/2019

Each parish council prepares and Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR) each year.  Kirkby Thore Parish Council is required to do this.  Our formal period for the inspection of the AGAR commences on the 17th of June 2019 and ends on the 26th of July 2019.  All documentation associated with this exercise can now be viewed on the financial information page of our website.  If you would like anymore information please contact the Parish Clerk, Lindsay Nicholson.

Lakeland Lanequest – Orienteering on a Bike

Navigate to as many checkpoints as you can in 2 hours.  The route is entirely on tarmac lanes and suitable for all abilities.  The event will start at the Stag Inn, Dufton on Tuesday 2nd of July 2019 at 5.30pm.  For more details click here.

Election of Parish Councillors

Kirkby Thore Parish Council is looking for candidates interested in standing for election to Kirkby Thore Parish Council.  The parish council has a maximum of seven seats and we need new candidates to help fill these.  You have until 5.00pm on Wednesday the 4th of April 2019 to hand in a nomination paper.  Application forms are available from the Electoral Registration Officer at Eden District Council please telephone 01768 817817.  More details can also be sought from the parish clerk on 01434 382705 or email clerk@kirkbythore.org.uk.

Scam Mail

Typically scam mail involves professional fraudsters sending convincing letters that are designed to trick people out of money or other valuables.  Scam mail can include bogus competitions and fake prize draws.  Royal Mail indicates that it often originates from overseas and is difficult for them to detect.

Royal Mail is raising awareness of the problem.  This type of mail is illegal.  It targets the most vulnerable and is not normal advertising mail.  If you or someone you know if concerned about any mail they have received the Royal Mail ask you to contact them via one of the following,

  • Writing to Royal Mail at FREEPOST SCAM MAIL, enclosing any items that are suspected of being scam mail;
  • Calling the Royal Mail Scam Mail Helpline on 0800 0113 466; or
  • Emailing scam.mail@royalmail.com
